And I love the idea of librarians screaming themselves hoarse at an awards meeting, like tweens at a Justin Beiber concert. Wish I’d seen that!

On behalf of Sibling Rivalry Press, I’ll echo Steve’s gratitude. Of all potential recognition, being noticed by the ALA is tops in my book. If it weren’t for a couple of librarians early in my life, the odds of me surviving a psychologically-turbulant teenagerhood would have dramatically decreased. How books with GLBTIQ content survived to be placed on the shelves in Monticello, Arkansas, I’ll never know, but I have a hunch it was thanks to those wonderful librarians.

Hi Sarah,

thanks for the links and the love! Amazing how destructive criticism can be and how hard it can be to get over it. Serves as a reminder to all of us who read and critique others’ work to be as detailed, helpful and positive as we possibly can be.

And I completely agree – writing is all about connection, meaning, emotions – those things are always going to push people’s buttons. If writers aren’t pushing anyone’s buttons, they need to try harder!

Wow, I could not agree with you more! I hate this kind of blathery bullshit. “Oh, wah wah, too many writers,” — sounds to me more like a “That’s the reason no one is worshipping my awesome!”. WHATEVER. Bleh! Good poetry? For me? IS THE SHIT I LIKE TO READ.
